Skin Nourishing Foods
Aug 25th, 2009, 1:21am

Use the Leafy green vegetables that contain vitamins, minerals (especially iron and calcium) and are high in antioxidant properties will nourish the skin and protect it from premature aging.

Sweet juicy fruits like grapes, melons, pears, plums and stewed apples at breakfast are excellent for the skin of different kinds .

Eat a wide variety of grains over different meals and try mixed grain servings at breakfast and lunch.

Favor light, easy to digest proteins like legume soups, whole milk, paneer (cheese made from boiling milk, adding lemon and straining solids) and lassi (diluted yogurt and spice drinks).

Oils like ghee (clarified butter) and organic, extra virgin olive oil should be included in the diet as they lubricate, nourish and create luster in the skin.

Hello

The skin is the outer reflection of your inner health. Moist, clear, glowing skin is a sign of good diet, while dry, pale, scaly or oily skin may result when diet is not up to par.
Eating more whole grains is an easy way to add a layer of "health insurance" to your life. A diet rich in whole grains has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and some forms of cancer. Try mixed grain servings at breakfast and lunch.
Oils like ghee and organic, extra virgin olive oil should be included in the diet as they lubricate, nourish and create luster in the skin.
Use spices like ginger turmeric, cumin, coriander, and black pepper to improve digestion, nourish the skin and cleanse it of impurities.
Avoid microwaving and boiling your vegetables. They lose as much as 85% of their antioxidant content when cooked in this way. Steaming and sauteing are best.

Nourishing is a way of supplying emollients to the skin so that it can hold moisture better and performs its other functions. In dry skin and those which are aging, the secretion of sebum, the skin's natural oil, is low. Nourishing helps to replenish and feed the skin. It should be included in the daily night care routine.

A 'skin food' cream that is enriched emollients and vitamins like Vitamin A and E should be used to nourish the skin. Foods like wheat germ oil, carrot, cabbage, almonds provide valuable vitamins and minerals. Daily nourishment prevents the early appearance of line and wrinkles and keep the skin firm, soft, smooth and resilient.

Use the nourishment cream with Vitamin A, which is of utmost importance to the skin helping to relieve dryness and maintain skin elasticity and the nourishing cream with Vitamin E (anti-oxidant) which helps in minimizing cross linking damage. Cross linking is an oxidation process that causes degeneration to the supportive tissues and thus hastens premature aging of the skin. Vitamin E also promotes the healthy regeneration of the new skin cells.

Nourishment of the skin should be part of your night care routine so that the skin can be replenished after it has suffered assaults by sun exposure, chemical air pollutants, low humidity conditions and makeup. It also prepares the skin for the night so that the process of renewal and repair can carry on efficiently while you are asleep.

When our skin's feeling dry, it's a reflex action to reach for an intensive moisturiser. An outbreak of spots? Then we make a beeline for the nearest bacterial treatment. But have you ever thought about improving your complexion from the inside, by changing what you put 'into' rather than 'onto' your body? While it's a myth that overdosing on crisps and chocolate will give you greasy, unpredictable complexion, it is true that eating healthily can transform your complexion and give you a glow unrivalled by any expensive face product. Think of your skin as a shop window for your lifestyle.
